I am not I,
I am this one, standing beside me whom I do not see,
whom at times I manage to visit and at other times,
I forget.
The one who forgives sweet when I hate;
The one who stays indoors while I take a walk;
The one who remains silent while I talk.
I am not I,
I am this one,
The one who remains standing when I die.
I am not I, I am this One.
Juan Ramón Jiménez Mantecónwas a Spanish poet, a prolific writer who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1956 “for his lyrical poetry, which in the Spanish language constitutes an example of high spirit and artistical purity”.
